[POLL] Introducing Communities of Practice

Hi all, this is a meta discussion thread for the Communities of Practice (CoP) concept shared during the call. This thread is for us to get a temperature check on the idea, allow the community to weigh in with feedback, and explore what CoPs folks would be interested in exploring.

This thread has a few polls to help us explore next steps before the August monthly meeting. Take a look below and leave your vote and replies below. :raised_hands:

What is a Community of Practice?

A Community of Practice is a group of people who come together to share news, updates, and questions with a broader community collected around a specific topic. This is similar to Working Groups, Special Interest Groups, or other similar terms.

There are not always to-do’s and tasks after meeting, although there can be if the Community of Practice wishes. The main purpose is to provide a safe space and a forum for issues centered on issues faced by folks in specific marginalized and/or underrepresented backgrounds.
