Back in August 2019, two Summer Coding interns (Outreachy and GSoC) gave a presentation at the Fedora contributor conference, Flock, where they unpacked some of the barriers and challenges to contributing to open source as students in developing nations.
It’s a first-hand account of challenges and ideas on how to make the experience better. Most of the challenges they note are systemic, but I’m taking some time to reflect on their points in terms of how to design more inclusive communities.
